Janis Claflin is renowned as a psychotherapist and organizational consultant with 40 years of contribution to her fields. She initially obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English from George Peabody College for Teachers, she earned a Masters of Arts in Religion from Yale Divinity School.
She began her career as a Conference Director for Yale University at their Continuing Education Center designing and directing a 10 day interdisciplinary residential conference on Theology and Sexuality. She became aware of the acute need for compassionate counselors and proceeded with training and supervision. She is the author of "Reflection For Living", a values-clarification curriculum for use in clinical settings. Likewise, Ms. Claflin became a member of the American Society for Training and Development.
Appointed as the Executive Director of the Lanier Foundation in Houston in 1972 she worked to create better services for children and youth with emotional and behavioral needs. She further flourished as the Assistant Director of the Child Care Council of Greater Houston from 1974 – 1975 after which she found success as the founder of Children's Resource and Information Service (CRIS) in 1975, serving as Executive Director until1979.
Since 1979, Ms. Claflin has excelled in private practice as an organizational consultant and a psychotherapist. As the owner of Claflin & Associates she has served the community of Austin, Texas, founding The Austin Center for Attitudinal Healing, serving children, adults, and family members struggling with transforming fear into inner peace and love. Later she was the Founding President of the International Center for Attitudinal Healing. As a mediator, she has trained over 200 mediators.
She is an excellent trainer and consultant and has provided her wealth of knowledge and wisdom as a visiting instructor at numerous institutions such as the Baylor College of Medicine and the American Bankers Association. She was retained as a consultant by John E. Fetzer to reorganize his private foundation and later became a Founding Trustee for The Fetzer Institute where she served for 27 years. Her consulting practice has taken her across the United States and into Europe and Latin America. Based in Austin TX, she continues to be engaged in healing work.
