Dr. Dinos Demetrios Constantinides Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

An accomplished listee, Dr. Constantinides celebrates over 60 years' experience in music composition, violin, and conducting, for which he has won numerous awards and held many leadership roles. Dr. Constantinides' compositions, available on over 65 CDs, include his operas Intimations, winner of two awards; Antigone, described by Teresa Stratas as "both powerful and beautiful"; and Rosanna and seven symphonies, of which Symphony No. 2 earned him Louisiana's Artist of the Year Award. He is the recipient of first prizes in the Brooklyn College International Chamber Competition and the First Midwest Chamber Opera Conference, as well as the Delius Composition Contest Grand Prize, American New Music Consortium Distinguished Service Award, Glen Award of l'Ensemble of New York, numerous Meet-the-Composer grants and ASCAP Standard Awards, and a Distinguished Teacher White House commission on Presidential Scholars.

He has received rave reviews for his orchestral music, which has been performed by symphony orchestras such as the English Chamber Orchestra, American Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony (China), Bohuslav Martinu Chamber Orchestra, Black Sea Philharmonic (Romania), and Filarmonica "Oltenia" (Craiova, Romania). Fanfare Magazine wrote, "Constantinides' Symphony (No. 2) is a splendid work—an eclectic blend of styles that effortlessly coheres, and produces a highly satisfying synthesis unique to this composer." Dr. Constantinides is presently a Boyd Professor, the highest academic rank at Louisiana State University, head of the Composition area, and music director of the Louisiana Sinfonietta. Many of his students have established distinguished careers all over the world. From 1974–1996, he served as the director of the prestigious Louisiana State University Festival of Contemporary Music. Nationally, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Society of Composers, College Music Society, National Composers of U.S.A., and Music Teacher National Association. He is a member of ASCAP and has been an evaluator for the MacArthur Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Dr. Constantinides began his career on violin, playing with the State Orchestra of Athens in Greece and the Indianapolis and Baton Rouge Symphonies in the U.S. At Louisiana State University, he was a member of the Festival Arts Trio. In addition to performing as a violin soloist with orchestras in the U.S. and Europe, he has given numerous recitals as both soloist and composer at prestigious halls such as Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall (now David Geffen Hall), and Alice Tully Hall. He was educated in Greece at the Ioannina, Greek, and Athens Conservatories and in the U.S. at the universities of Indiana, Michigan State (PhD in Composition), and the Juilliard School. In 2010, he received an honorary doctorate in music from the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece.
