TACOMA, WA, April 23, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Florence "See See" Rigney with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Rigney celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Accumulating more than seven remarkable decades in the health care industry, Ms. Rigney is a celebrated nurse who, at the age of 94, continues to assist patients on a part-time basis at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital. Well-known for her tireless work ethic, she briefly retired at the age of 65, only to return to the hospital less than a year later. Some of Ms. Rigney's other noteworthy roles throughout her extensive career have included nursing positions at Memorial Baptist Hospital, now known as the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, in Wyoming, Nix Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, and the WellStar Atlanta Medical Center, formerly known as Georgia Baptist Hospital.
Inspired by several great mentors throughout her prominent career, Ms. Rigney pays special tribute to one of her former supervisors, Lucille McDonald, who worked at Tacoma General for 45 years and taught an essential course called "operating room technique." Reflecting on her career with great satisfaction, she has enjoyed her professional journey, which has enabled her to work with and for many incredible individuals. Ms. Rigney also feels grateful to have helped countless patients and their families over the years.
At the age of 6, Ms. Rigney had to undergo a mastoidectomy, a surgical procedure that involved removing diseased mastoid air cells from her scull behind her ear. The experience led to her fostering a great appreciation for the nurses that cared for her and ultimately inspired her to pursue a career in health care as an adult. Even though her father had wanted her to study business in college, she followed her heart and instead enrolled at the Tacoma General School of Nursing, where the tuition at the time cost less than $200. Ms. Rigney graduated from the aforementioned school in 1946 and began her career in the Nurse Cadet Corp in nurses training during World War II.
In addition to her primary vocation as a nurse, Ms. Rigney has been affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the Association of perioperative Registered Nurses, formerly known as the American Operating Room Nurses, and the American Nurses Association. Attributing her success to the love of her profession and her willingness to learn, Ms. Rigney has been notably featured on "The Dr. Oz Show, "NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt" and numerous other television network programs. In the coming years, Ms. Rigney plans to fully retire and dedicate some of her free time to volunteer work while enjoying the rest of her life in good health and happiness.
