A medical educator with more than 35 years to his credit, Dr. Schneider excelled as a professor and chairman in the department of obstetrics & gynecology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia until his retirement in 1999. Originally recruited to the aforementioned university, which was formerly known as the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann Medical College, in 1978 as a professor and chairman of the same department, he also held the position of an associate dean from 1997 to 1999. Dr. Schneider additionally worked at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor as a professor of obstetrics and gynecology and the chief of obstetrics services between 1963 and 1977.
Devoting the majority of his career to academia in the medical field, Dr. Schneider was a passionate leader who believed in preparing the next generation of physicians. He notably credits much of his success to his longtime mentor, J. Robert Willson, who taught and chaired the department of medicine at the University of Michigan for many years. Dr. Schneider found success with his editorial works as well, co-editing the second edition of "Perinatal Medicine: Management of the High Risk Fetus and Neonate," which was published in 1982.
An active member of his community, Dr. Schneider has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He contributed to the Orleans Board of Health as a board member and to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Chatham, Massachusetts, as a staff officer on public education. Likewise, he maintains his involvement with Friends of Pleasant Bay in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, as a board member.
Born in Prague, Dr. Schneider initially moved to London after the invasion of the former country of Czechoslovakia in 1939. He later obtained a medical degree from the London Hospital Medical College at the University of London in 1957. Immigrating to Canada in 1959 and then to the U.S. in 1963, he subsequently joined the University of Michigan, where graduated with a Master of Public Health in 1967. Dr. Schneider is a licensed OB-GYN and certified in maternal-fetal medicine.
Throughout his eminent career, Dr. Schneider maintained his alignment with several prominent specialty organizations. A life fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, he is also a member of the Society of Perinatal Obstetricians, the American Gynecological & Obstetrical Society and the Obstetrical Society of Philadelphia, for which he also served as a president. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Schneider has been notably featured in more than 20 editions of Who's Who in America as well as multiple volumes of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
