Mr. Christensen is renowned as a journalist and communications professional with more than 40 years of excellence in his field. The son of a writer, he developed a passion for news and storytelling at a young age. Mr. Christensen pursued an education at Arizona State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in geography in 1975 and a Bachelor of Science in journalism in 1978.He has worked with and for local, state, federal and tribal agencies, as well as private companies.
Mr. Christensen began his career at the Arizona Capitol Times as a reporter in 1978, advancing to legislative editor in 1983, and to managing editor in 1988 until 1993. During that time he led the coverage of the historic impeachment of Governor Mecham. He subsequently excelled as the communications director for the Arizona Department of Health Services from 1993 to 2000, where he helped plan and launch a youth tobacco prevention campaign that was adopted as a national model by the CDC. From 2000 to 2011, Mr. Christensen found success as the director of U.S. communications for AMEC Earth & Environmental where he led communications for AMEC's post-9/11 clean-up activities at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Mr. Christensen has been affiliated with the National Public Health Information Coalition since 2011, serving as the communications director until departing in 2019 to offer his services as media relations and communications consultant. Mr. Christensen has earned awards for excellence from the Public Relations Society of America, the Arizona chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, the International Academy of Visual Arts, the Native American Journalists Association and the British Association of Communicators in Business, as well as two Arizona Governor's awards.
