Having led a long and successful career in accounting which began in 1975, Mr. Smith's career lasted over twenty eight years with the same group of companies. Mr. Smith started his career as an internal auditor with Liberty Life Insurance Company. He subsequently held roles with Liberty Properties, Inc. and The Liberty Corporation in various noteworthy roles, including Senior Auditor and Tax Manager. In 1981 he transferred to Cosmos Broadcasting Corporation where he contributed for over two decades as an Assistant Controller, Controller, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer. Additionally, Mr. Smith excelled as the Chief Operating Officer of Cable Vantage Inc. before ultimately garnering a laudable reputation as the Chief Executive Officer at his current organization, GNS Media, LLC.
Currently a member of the board of Broadcast Music, Inc., one of the world's largest performing rights organization (PRO) representing more than one million songwriters and fifteen million compositions. Mr. Smith has served in various positions in his role as board member since 1995. A career highlight and honor for him, he is grateful to have aligned with the organization for so many years. Likewise a leader in his community, he most notably served as a Pickens County Council member in South Carolina for twenty four years with fourteen of those years as Chairman. Mr. Smith was also the President of the Liberty Recreation Association, the Liberty Federal Credit Union, served on the board and as Chairman of Cannon Memorial Hospital and was the Vice Chairman of the Appalachian Council of Governments.
An alumnus of Clemson University, Mr. Smith received a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1975. He is an elected fellow of the Life Management Institute. He has also been aligned with several other professional organizations, including the National Associations of Accountants and the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Smith is also a member, past President and former Treasurer of the Liberty Chamber of Commerce, member and former Secretary of the Liberty Masonic Lodge.
Recognized for his various contributions in the field, Mr. Smith has earned many accolades throughout his career. To wit, he was bestowed with a Top Sales Award in 1984 from the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, and was named as Member of the Year and Civic Leader of the Year by the Liberty Chamber of Commerce in 1984 and 1985, respectively. In 2012, he was recognized by the S.C. Association of Regionals Councils as its Volunteer of the Year. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Smith has been included in the 25th edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry and the second and third edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
