Dr. Mitty is renowned as a physician and educator with more than 50 years of specialty in interventional radiology. Earning a Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York Downstate in 1958, he became a certified radiologist in 1966. In 1995, Dr. Mitty obtained a CAQ credential in diagnostic and interventional radiology.
From 1958 to 1959, Dr. Mitty worked as an intern at Mount Sinai Hospital. He subsequently completed a residency in internal medicine at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn from 1961 to 1962, and a residency in radiology at Mount Sinai Hospital from 1962 to 1965. Since 1965, he has excelled in practice at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where he helped establish the interventional radiology program. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Mitty flourished as a professor of radiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine from 1965 until his retirement in 2013.
Dr. Mitty is the author of "Radiology of the Adrenals: with Sonography and CT" in 1982, summarizing his experimental research in adrenal imaging and interventions. He has conducted extensive research in renal radiology and obstetric hemorrhages, and is widely quoted in radiological literature. Among other accolades, he has been presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Uroradiology and a Gold Medal from the Society of Interventional Radiology. Likewise, Dr. Mitty is a fellow of the American College of Radiology and the Society of Interventional Radiology, and the past president of the New York Roentgen Society.
