Distinguished for his expertise in matrimonial law and business law affairs, along with his extensive experience as a special master, mediator and arbitrator in complex civil and probate litigation, Mr. Jacobs has earned distinction as an integral member of the Esdaile, Barrett, Jacobs & Mone team. Serving as a partner since 1973, his two most prominent cases have dealt with the valuation of assets in excess of $1 billion. With a breadth of experience in representing high net-worth individuals, Mr. Jacobs has garnered a laudable reputation within the Boston community and nationwide.
Mr. Jacobs received a Bachelor of Arts in politics, with Honors, from Brandeis University in 1961, and proceeded to obtain a Bachelor of Laws, with Honors, from the Boston College School of Law in 1964. He commenced his career in 1965 as a law clerk for Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Massachusetts for one year and practiced at Jacobs, Jacobs & Jacobs from 1965 to 1973.
Recognized with an AV preeminent rating via Martindale Hubbell, Mr. Jacobs has been listed among the Best Lawyers of America for three decades. He has been voted, in Super Lawyers polls, as one of the top 100 lawyers in all of New England, across all areas of discipline, and, on multiple occasions. He has, likewise, been ranked by Super Lawyers as the Number One Lawyer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 2005. The National Academy of Family Law Attorneys granted him their prestigious Top 10 Attorney.
Hailing from a family of lawyers, Mr. Jacobs aspired to become a lawyer since coming of age. He attributes his standout success on a propensity for passion in his work, and great encouragement from his peers. He particularly credits J. Newton Esdaile, a Massachusetts civil trial lawyer, for recruiting him to become a partner at his current firm; without that moment of serendipity, his career progression could have progressed quite differently. Looking toward the future, Mr. Jacobs hopes to continue working and serving his clients for the foreseeable future.
To remain aware of developments affecting his field, Mr. Jacobs has maintained his professional affiliation with several organizations of note. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and serves as legal counsel to the Massachusetts Chapter. A frequent lecturer at Boston area law schools, particularly Suffolk University, New England School of Law and Boston College, Mr. Jacobs lectures widely at minimum continuing legal education and other continuing education groups in the areas of evidence, trial practice and family law.
