Dr. Koshy has led a prosperous career in chemistry for more than 40 years. Originally working in his home country of India, he contributed in the classroom as a lecturer and as the head of the chemistry department at J.M. Patel College, as well as a chemistry lecturer at D.B. Science College on behalf of the Gondia Education Society. After relocating to the U.S., he found success for the remainder of his career living and working in Michigan, with a brief diversion in Houston between 2005 and 2007 as a senior scientist for Huntsman Advanced Materials. Among his other noteworthy roles, Dr. Koshy served as a senior research scientist for Henkel Surface Technologies, and a technical manager and body shop manager for EFTEC North America.
Renowned for his expertise, Dr. Koshy notably established Autotek Inc. in 1989. Within just five years, the successful business made over $5 million in sales. Several years hence, Dr. Koshy founded a consultant company in 1995. Located in Bloomfield Hills, Koshy Specialty Products, Inc. specializes in automotive adhesives and sealants.
Fascinated by scientists while coming of age as a student, Dr. Koshy was always curious about the discoveries inherent in such a profession and how they affected humanity. Inspired to create his own array of scientific products later in life, some of his greatest achievements have included a formula for a universal sealer for automotive application, the development of the first two components of thermosettable composition systems, as well as an anti-flutter and weldable elastomer composition. Dr. Koshy holds seven patents in his field and has contributed 12 peer-reviewed articles in the Journal of Chemical Engineering, Croatica Chemica Acta, the Indian Academy Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences Science Letters and others.
Dr. Koshy has likewise made an impact as a civic advocate, beginning in 2001 as the treasurer at Saint Thomas Orthodox Church, where he continues to serve in various capacities as a parishioner. In 2020, he was named as the vice president of the Indian Overseas Congress, a nonprofit organization comprised of overseas Indians and friends that promote the Indian National Congress. In years past, Dr. Koshy was active in his home country as the president of the Chemical Society at Ravishankar University in Raipur from 1977 to 1978, as the president of the Research Scholars Association between 1979 and 1981 and as the president of the Science Association at J.M. Patel College in Bhandara from 1981 until 1982.
An alumnus of Kerala University, Dr. Koshy received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1973. He subsequently attended Ravishankar University, where he acquired a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry in 1975 and 1983, respectively, completed a research fellowship in chemistry between 1976 and 1981 and earned a diploma in Russian language in 1980. Dr. Koshy later attained a Master of Science in Economic Aspects of Chemistry at the University of Detroit in 1992.
To support his illustrious career, Dr. Koshy has been active as a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemists, as well as an associate member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He is a member and former region seven vice president of the Federation of the Kerala Associations of North America and a member and former president of the Detroit chapter of the Kerala Club. Dr. Koshy notably secured numerous grants throughout his career, as well as several awards for his work, including a President's Award for the development of a two-part epoxy adhesive for automotive from Henkel Surface Technologies. Dr. Koshy was born in Kumbanad, Kerala, India on January 05, 1952 as the son of V.C. Cherian and Mariamma Cherian and married to Dr. Valsamma Koshy on January 31, 1983. Dr. Valsamma is a QC supervisor at Frendale Pharma/Laboratories and with the company since 1986.
