After immigrating to the United States in 1959, Dr. Stewart pursued a career in medicine, starting as an intern and resident in surgery at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital during the 1980s. From there he completed a trauma fellowship at the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center before continuing his career as an attending surgeon at the State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn and Kings County Hospital. During the 1990s, Dr. Stewart gained valuable expertise as the director of trauma and surgical critical care at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital and at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey.
Before retiring in 2019, Dr. Stewart found success as the director of trauma and surgical critical care at Lancaster General Hospital, and as a trauma attending and associate trauma director at Hackensack Meridian University Medical Center. During his career, Dr. Stewart is especially proud of the collegiality he has had with his colleagues over the years, as well as their mutual support for one another.
Dr. Stewart holds a Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York College at Brockport which he earned in 1979. Subsequently, he received a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983. He retains his professional alignment with the American Medical Association, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the American College of Surgeons. He has been featured in such industry publications as Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
