CODY, WY, May 20, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present James B. Garry with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Garry celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Having accrued more than five decades of experience in the study of folklore and the natural history of the American West, Mr. Garry has garnered a laudable reputation as a historian, naturalist and storyteller. Since coming of age, he has been fascinated with history, and enjoyed collecting stories about the past from older community members. Before launching his career, Mr. Garry served as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers between undergraduate and graduate school. He earned a Bachelor of Science in 1970 and a Master of Science in 1975, both from the University of Michigan.

From 1969 until 1975, Mr. Garry worked part-time as a wilderness guide and naturalist at the Triangle X Ranch in Moose, Wyoming. He further distinguished himself as a community organizer, consultant and teacher for the Hobart Street Project in Detroit from 1974 until 1975, and contributed between 1975 and 1976 as a lobbyist and media specialist for the Powder River Basin Resource Council in Sheridan, Wyoming. Mr. Garry continued his work accordingly for the next two years as a media and political strategy consultant based out of Big Horn, Wyoming. In 1978, he was selected as a video and film artist-in-residence at Sheridan College by the Wyoming Council on the Arts, where he would remain in residence until 1980.

Mr. Garry has devoted himself to storytelling and passing on Western history since 1980. Until 2000, he served as a member of the staff of a non profit educational organization specializing in Great Plains region lore and natural history, and he continues to work as a storyteller at the Buffalo Bill Center on the West, as well as a teacher at the Yellowstone Forever Institute. Remarkably, Mr. Garry has excelled for 40 years as a study leader and research collaborator with the Smithsonian Institution, and is the author of four books of oral history and folklore, including "The Weapons of the Lewis and Clark Expedition," published in 2012.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Garry aspires to continue writing and performing as a storyteller. In a career suffused with highlights, he is most proud of the cumulative effect that his work has had on his peers and colleagues, and believes he has gained a unique perspective on truth, facts and the nature of narrative by working as both a storyteller and research historian. Recognized for his valuable contributions to the field, Mr. Garry was the recipient of a Special Heritage Award from the Old West Trail Foundation, and was likewise named among the Wyoming Council for the Humanities' Individual Humanists of the Year in 1986.
