Drawing upon years of professional expertise and an innate love of chemistry, Dr. Brinker, a native of Germany, served from 1996 to 2011 as a Professor Ordinarius of organic chemistry at the University of Vienna, Austria. Before that he worked as Professor of Chemistry and department chairman for Binghamton University, a part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. Previously, he gained valuable expertise as a Visiting Professor with the Max-Planck Institute for coal research at Mülheim, Germany. During the 1970s and 1980s, Dr. Brinker built the foundation on which he now stands through varying positions at the Ruhr-University of Bochum, Germany, and the University of Florida. Currently, he is a Research Professor at Binghamton University.
Prior to these appointments, Dr. Brinker pursued a formal education at the University of Cologne, Germany, earning a Master of Science in chemistry in 1971 and a Doctor of Natural Sciences in 1973. He retains professional alignment with the American Chemical Society, the Austrian Chemical Society and the German Chemical Society, as well as the Royal Society of Chemistry in the United Kingdom. In recognition of his outstanding work, Dr. Brinker accepted a graduate fellowship from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany between 1971 and 1973, a Fulbright-Hays fellowship between 1973 and 1975, and a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Florida in 1974.

Dr. Brinker was married to internationally-renowned Binghamton University Professor of Comparative Literature, Dr. Gisela Brinker-Gabler, from 1973 until her untimely death in 2019. He is the proud father of their son Kai, a senior product manager. Industry publications such as Who's Who in the East and Wer ist Wer, the German Who's Who, have also honored him for his professional achievements.
