Mr. Rollins is renowned as an attorney, an educator and an entrepreneur with more than four decades of excellence in rhetoric. After a last-minute enrollment in a high school speech and debate class, he discovered a gift for argument that led to a lifelong passion for the art form. He initially pursued an education at Georgetown University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, cum laude, in 1978. In 1980, Mr. Rollins was voted "The Nation's Outstanding College Debater of the Decade." Mr. Rollins concluded his academic efforts at Harvard University, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence, magna cum laude, in 1982.
Mr. Rollins began his career as a reporter for the New Times and Politics Today Magazine and a research assistant to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary in 1978. He was active as an articles editor for the Harvard Law Review from 1981 to 1982, and clerked for the Honorable James L. Oakes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 1982 to 1983. Mr. Rollins subsequently served as an associate of the firm of Susman, Godfrey, and McGowan in Houston, Texas in 1985, at which point he was appointed as the chief of staff and chief counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources.
In 1989, Mr. Rollins departed from the U.S. Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources to establish The Teaching Company, now known as The Great Courses, a continuing education content provider, where he would flourish as the chief executive officer until 2006 and the director until 2011. Since 2007, he has excelled as a volunteer debate coach for the Potomac School in McLean. Furthermore, Mr. Rollins is the author of numerous magazine articles, as well as the book "The CEO Formula: How Profits, Justice, and Vengeance Make and Break Companies."
Likewise, Mr. Rollins published more than 4000 hours of educational audio and video content as a part of The Teaching Company. He is the recipient of dozens of accolades for his work in education and his accomplishments in speech and debate. Notably, Mr. Rollins was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Speech and Debate Association in 2015.
