Hired as an associate attorney at Allen, Thielblot and Alexander in 1973, Mr. Ferguson advanced to become a partner four years later. He has subsequently held several professional appointments throughout his legal career, beginning in 1987 as a member of the character committee for the Sixth Appellate Circuit and as the chairperson of the committee on court reporting during 1991 and since 2014. Mr. Ferguson was active with the Governor's Council on Criminal and Juvenile Justice during 1995, was a member of the inquiry panel of the Attorney Grievance Commission between 1998 and 2001 and, among other roles, remains active on the Governor's Trial Courts Judicial Nominating Commission for the 14th Judicial District in Baltimore City since 1999.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Ferguson worked for five years as an electric engineer. He first excelled with Bethlehem Steel Corporation, beginning in 1968, after which he was hired by Baltimore Gas and Electric, where he remained until 1973. While working full-time in the field, Mr. Ferguson attended law school at night. He pursued his studies at the University of Maryland where he completed a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1968, and acquired a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1972. He has been admitted to practice law by the Maryland and D.C. Bar Associations.
Mr. Ferguson's interest and involvement in his community led him to serve as the former president of the Baltimore Coalition Against Substance Abuse, a role he held between 1991 and 1996. He also found success as the vice president of the Baltimore Prevention Coalition between 1995 and 1996. Named as a fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation, Mr. Ferguson has also been a member of the Maryland state committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 2010.
Aligned with several other pertinent organizations as well, Mr. Ferguson is notably a member and past president of the Bar Association of Baltimore City, where he also chaired the committee that was responsible for forming the Baltimore Coalition Against Substance Abuse. He has also been prolifically active as a member of the Maryland State Bar Association in various capacities, including as the past chairperson and co-chairperson of the committee that drafted the Maryland Discovery Guidelines. Additionally, Mr. Ferguson led efforts as a member of the Russell Committee, where he studied and provided feedback on the drug crisis and the underfunding of the courts in Baltimore City.
Long recognized for his contributions to the field, Mr. Ferguson was the recipient of a Special Award for Legal Excellence from the Maryland Bar Foundation, a Governor's Citation for Service on the Governor's Council for Criminal and Juvenile Justice, a Charles H.
