Alan Imrie has authored and co-authored 35 technical papers in engineering geology, geotechnical engineering and risk analysis.
VANCOUVER, BC, June 05, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alan Imrie has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After spending part of his early life growing up in a mining camp on Great Bear Lake in Northern Canada, Mr. Imrie was inspired to enter the field of geological engineering, culminating in his current position as the president of Imrie Engineering Inc., which he established in 2004. In this role, he has worked on a variety of projects, including tunnels, dams and powerhouses in Labrador and Newfoundland, the Coquitlam Dam Seismic Upgrade and the Rampur Hydroelectric Project on the Satluj River in India, followed by the Ituango Dam in Colombia. Previously, Mr. Imrie gained valuable expertise through various postings with International Power and Engineering Consultants and BC Hydro from 1964 through 1998. He was the chief technical officer with BCH between 1998 and 2002. Just prior to his current appointment with IEI, he worked as principal engineer for BCH between 2002 and 2004.
Before entering the field, Mr. Imrie earned a Bachelor of Science in geological engineering from the University of Alberta in 1963. Subsequently, he obtained a Master of Science in structural geology from his alma mater in 1967 and received certifications through the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Engineering Institute of Canada. Mr. Imrie remains affiliated with a number of noteworthy organizations, including the Geological Association of Canada, the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, the Canadian Geotechnical Society, the Canadian Dam Association, the Association of State Dam Safety Officials, the Tunneling Association of Canada and the International Society of Rock Mechanic, among others.
With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Mr. Imrie has authored and co-authored 35 technical papers in engineering geology, geotechnical engineering and risk analysis. In honor of his written works, he was presented with the 1979 Gold Medal in recognition of best technical paper in the field of Canadian rock mechanics from the Canadian National Committee on Rock Mechanics and the 1983 Thomas Roy Award for the best technical paper in engineering geology from the Canadian Geotechnical Society. More recently, he was recognized with the 2001 R.M. Quigley Award for outstanding contribution to the geotechnical profession, as well as the 2009 Geotechnical Engineer of the Year Award from the Vancouver Geotechnical Society. Looking toward the future, Mr. Imrie intends to enjoy a well-deserved retirement and writing his memoir.
