Dr. Takechi is renowned as a physician and researcher with more than 30 years of service to her patients and profession. Inspired by her mother, Setsuko Tsuzuki, a famous dermatologist who remained in practice but died in 2002, Dr. Takechi decided as a child that she would pursue a career in medicine. A graduate of the Hyogo College of Medicine, Dr. Takechi obtained a Doctor of Medicine in 1987 before passing the national licensure examination later that same year.
Dr. Takechi began her career as a physician in the second surgery department of Hyogo College of Medicine Hospital from 1987 to 1990. In 1995, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry from Hyogo College of Medicine. Dr. Takechi further flourished with the Tsuchibashi Shinryosho (clinic), for which she was appointed as the assistant director in 1995 and the director in 2000.
From 2008 to 2014, Dr. Takechi had excelled as a clinical professor at the Kochi University College of Medicine. She is additionally active as a researcher and clinician with the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. In 2014, the Tsuchibashi Shinryosho (clinic) rebranded to become the Tsuchibashi Medical Laboratory, for which she accepted a promotion to the director of the main clinical research branch. Since 2020, Dr. Takechi has found success with Kochi Harmony Hospital as the director of the general medical department.
Extensively published in Japanese, Dr. Takechi's research has included work into the treatment of atopic dermatitis with topical antifungal agents, and modeling of the links between allergy, immunity, genetics, and biochemistry using a case study of hay fever treatment with a COX-2 inhibitor. Her work has the potential to help patients with a long history of reliance on topical steroid therapies to discontinue their use, and she was recognized as the International Biographical Centre's 2007 Health Professional of the Year for her paper "The Understanding of Inflammation Process." Dr. Takechi is also a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and is affiliated with adult infectious disease laboratories at Harvard University.
