Dr. Pascu is renowned as a professor and a senior research scientist at the National Institute of Laser Plasma & Radiation Physics and professor at Physics Faculty of the University of Bucharest. He previously pursued an education at the aforementioned university, earning an undergraduate physics degree in 1968 and a Doctor of Philosophy in physics in 1975. Dr. Pascu pursued additional doctoral research at the University of Texas before returning to Bucharest, where he served as the director of the Institute of Laser, Plasma, & Radiation Physics from 1983 until 1990.
Since 1990, Dr. Pascu has excelled as a senior research scientist and the head of doctoral programs at the Physics Faculty of the University of Bucharest and National Institute of Laser Plasma & Radiation Physics in Bucharest. He flourished as a science officer for the European Commission's Directorate General for Research and Innovation from 2001 until 2004 in Brussels and as a science officer for the European Science Foundation in Strasbourg from 2004 until 2007. For more than 20 years, Dr. Pascu has found success as a subject matter expert consultant to the Romanian National Centre for Scientific Research in Higher Education, the European Commission Directorate General for Research and Innovation and the ANCS.
Dr. Pascu's research has primarily focused on applications in laser and optical spectroscopy, including work on chaotic properties of tunable laser beams, water and soil pollutant analysis, and novel nanomedical and biomedical laser spectroscopy use cases. He is the recipient of numerous honors and accolades for his exemplary contributions to research and policy, including a 1985 Romanian Medal from the Romanian Council for Science and Technology, a 2000 Excellence Award from the Romanian Agency for Science, Technology, & Innovation and 1990 (for Physics) and 2001 (for medicine) Romanian Academy Award. Dr. Pascu is also member of the Romanian Academy for Medical Sciences and DHC of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila in Bucharest. Dr. Pascu is also noted as a founding member and the past president of the Romanian Society for Lasers in Medicine & Biology, as well as a member of the European Physical Society, the Romanian Society of Physics and the European Optical Society and Optical Society of America (OSA).
