BONDI JUNCTION, AUSTRALIA, June 15, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Brian Morris has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Backed by decades of experience in scientific education and research, Dr. Morris has been designated as professor emeritus with the University of Sydney, with which he maintains research interest in the molecular basis of hypertension, renin-angiotensin system in health and disease, molecular basis of longevity, molecular genetics and biology, and the benefits of male circumcision. Prior to this appointment, he worked with the University of Sydney as a professor, a reader, a senior lecturer and a lecturer for many years. Although his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Morris is especially proud of identifying the transcriptome-wide gene expression changes in human hypertensive kidneys, identifying and characterizing novel human splicing factors and testing for the detection of human papillomavirus using polymerase chain reaction.
During the 1970s, Dr. Morris gained valuable expertise in scientific research through a PhD scholarship and two post-doctoral fellowships. With the support of a C.J. Martin post-doctoral fellowship from the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia and subsequently an American Heart Association fellowship, he performed research on the renin-angiotensin system at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and the University of Missouri Columbia.
At UCSF, Dr. Morris conducted studies of the mechanisms responsible for renin secretion from the kidney, as well as renin-angiotensin system components in the central nervous system. With the University of Missouri, he studied the pathophysiological basis of cardiovascular disease, with a particular focus on a model of congestive heart failure. This led to Dr. Morris' publication in the highly-ranked journal Circulation Research.
Before beginning his notable career in scientific research, Dr. Morris earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Adelaide in 1972 where he helped discover pro-renin. Three years later, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Subsequently, Dr. Morris was awarded a Doctor of Science from the University of Sydney in 1993.
Dedicated to his community, Dr. Morris contributes to those in need as the chief executive officer of the Circumcision Academy Australia, which was founded in 2010. In this role, he remains devoted to providing scientifically accurate medical information on male circumcision, as well as contact details for doctors who perform circumcisions on newborn boys, older boys and men in Australia and New Zealand. With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Morris has provided his expertise to more than 420 articles in professional journals and chapters in books, including "In silico analysis of human renin gene-gene interactions and neighborhood topologically associated domains suggests breakdown of insulators contribute to aging-associated diseases," "Longevity-associated FOXO3 genotype and its impact on coronary artery disease mortality in Japanese, Whites and Blacks: A prospective study of three American populations" and "Does male circumcision reduce women's risk of sexually transmitted infections, cervical cancer, and associated conditions?"
In recognition of his outstanding body of work, Dr. Morris has been featured in such publications as Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. In addition to receiving the Edgeworth David Medal from the Royal Society of New South Wales in 1985 and the Scroll of Honor Australia Day Award from the Waverly Council in 2007, he was presented with the Lewis K. Dahl Memorial Award from the American Heart Association (AHA) in 2010. More recently, he was honored with the Irvine Page-Alva Bradley Lifetime Achievement Award from the AHA's Council for High Blood Pressure in 2014. Likewise, he was inducted into the Order of Australia in 2018. In the near future, Dr. Morris aims to continue enjoying life through his research, while remaining open to whatever life has in store for him.
