He attended Roosevelt University, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts, and earned a Doctor of Law at the University of Chicago in 1966. Since concluding his academic efforts, Mr. Skirnick was admitted to practice law by the state bar of Illinois in 1967 and New York in 1982.
From 1966 until 1968, Mr. Skirnick served as an attorney in the Honors Program of the office of general counsel at the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. He found further success as an assistant attorney general working on antitrust cases for the Illinois Attorney General's Office between 1969 and 1972, when he became an associate of Torshen, Fortes, and Eiger of Chicago. Mr. Skirnick subsequently excelled as a partner of the firm, then called Fortes, Eiger, Epstein and Skirnick, in 1975, and continued to practice with them until 1977.
Mr. Skirnick maintained involvement as a partner of Much, Shelist from 1977 to 1979, and Wolf, Popper in New York between 1979 and 1987. He briefly practiced with Kaplan, Kilsheimer from 1988 until 1989 before becoming a partner of Wechsler, Skirnick, Harwood, Halebian, and Feffer, where he would remain until 1995. Mr. Skirnick was appointed to the role of a partner of Lovell and Skirnick, LLP from 1995 to 1997, and Meredith Cohen Greenfogel and Skirnick, PC, between 1997 and 2013.
Since 2013, Mr. Skirnick has continued his exemplary career as the principal of Skirnick Partners. He is the author of articles on federal and state class actions, antitrust and securities, and book chapters on federal court subject matter jurisdiction and multiparty bargaining in class actions. He co-founded the country's largest public interest law fellowships program and established a public interest law fellowship at Harvard Law School. The billion dollar all cash recovery in one case was the largest in antitrust history. Since 1980, Mr. Skirnick has earned a Martindale-Hubbell AV preeminent rating for legal ability and ethical standards.
