He is member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity. He was a sole practitioner prior to entering the law partnership of Ervin, Buford and Pennington. In 1972 he founded the law partnership of Pennington and Wilkinson, the predecessor to Pennington P.A. which has offices in Tallahassee, FL., Jacksonville, FL., Tampa, FL and Miami, FL.
Throughout his legal career Mr. Pennington has been active in local, regional and state bar associations and served as president of the Tallahassee Bar Association (1966-67) and as a member of the Board of Governors of the Florida Bar (1968-1972) He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is a member or former member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
Mr. Pennington has been active in matters relating to judicial administration, selection and tenure and he served on the First District Court of Appeal of Florida Nominating Commission (1986-1990) and as chairperson (1994-1995) of the Florida Supreme Court Nominating Commission (1991-2000). In addition to the practice of law, Mr. Pennington has engaged in numerous real estate developments and other business enterprises including serving for ten years as chairman of the board of directors of the Southern Bank of Tallahassee and for many years as a director of a NYSE listed corporation.
Mr. Pennington is an avid bird hunter, dog trainer and fly fisherman.
