Intending to eventually attend medical school, Mr. Nguyen enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for more than a decade between 1988 and 1999. While serving, he discovered his skills for leadership in the healthcare industry and decided to pursue this side of the field instead. Mr. Nguyen pursued a formal education at Park University, from which he received a Bachelor of Arts in social psychology in 1995. Continuing his academic efforts at Webster University, he attained a Master of Arts in healthcare administration in 1998.
Mr. Nguyen began his career as a Medic and progressed into a healthcare manager for the U.S. Air Force. Following this appointment, he excelled as a practice manager at Oregon Health and Science University and as the chief operating officer of Cadre Consulting Incorporated. Mr. Nguyen subsequently joined CommuniCare Health Centers as the chief operations officer in 2007, after which he found success as the president and chief executive officer from 2012 until the present.
For his accomplishments in the field, Mr. Nguyen was presented with the Healthcare Heroes Award by the San Antonio Business Journal in 2015. Throughout his career, he has attributed his success to his immigrant upbringing. To wit, Mr. Nguyen relocated from the United States to Vietnam in 1975 and has always possessed a hard-working mentality and a passion for his work.
Civically, Mr. Nguyen has contributed to his field by serving on the boards of Hallmark University, Community First Health Plans, BBVA Compass Bank, and the University of the Incarnate Word. He also maintains his professional affiliation with the Medical Group Management Association, Texas Association of Community Health Centers, and National Association of Community Health Centers. Looking towards the future, Mr. Nguyen would like to continue to expand on the healthcare delivery model. He would also like to work toward becoming a leader in the Texas healthcare industry and grow his business to surrounding counties.
