Dr. El-Kadi completed a neurosurgical residency at the Burdenko Neurosurgical Institute in Moscow from 1983 until 1989, when he relocated to the United States to pursue a research fellowship in neurosurgery with a focus in brain tumors and radiotherapy at the University of Southern California.
Dr. El-Kadi remained at the University of Southern California through 1994 as a general surgical intern upon the conclusion of his fellowship. From 1993 until 1994, he was active as a clinical fellow of the University of Connecticut, departing to conclude his studies at West Virginia University, from which he finished another residency in neurosurgery during which he spent one year at Allegheny General Hospital. Dr. El-Kadi formally began his career with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Since 1999, Dr. El-Kadi has maintained a clinical practice at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, in which he focuses on complex spinal cases with instrumentation. He has excelled as a clinical professor of neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh since 2010, for which he was also appointed as the vice chairman of the department of neurosurgery at the aforementioned medical center. He also became the director of the Spine Center at UPMC Passavant. A member of multiple committees, including the involvement committee for which he is the head, Dr. El-Kadi is a board member and the chair of the development committee for the UPMC Passavant Hospital Foundation.
