The foundation for Dr. Terekhov's career as a research scientist was firmly set in high school. When he was presented with the choice between enrolling in a literature course or a physics mathematics course, he opted for the latter because he wanted to learn how to fix things from a technical perspective. Furthermore, Dr. Terekhov was fortunate to be taught by noted Russian scientists in mathematics and physics, in which he performed exceedingly well. When he was still in eleventh grade, he was one of only two students in his high school to pass a unique tough entrance test to a Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI), becoming a student of the Russian university prior graduating high school.
Dr. Terekhov earned a Doctor of Philosophy in physics from the University of Alabama, a Master of Science in laser physics from the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute in Russia and a Bachelor of Science in physics from the aforementioned institute. He served as a research intern at the University of Twente in Enschede, the Netherlands, from 2000 to 2001 and as a research intern in the department of quantum electronics, led by Academician and Nobel Prize winner N.G. Basov, at the Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow from 1996 to 2000. In 1997, Dr. Terekhov worked as a research intern in the department of quantum electronics at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute.
Presently, Dr. Terekhov is employed as a research and development manager with Laser Photonics, a position he has held from 2015. Prior to accepting his present post, he found success at the University of Alabama in various positions, including as a teaching assistant, a research assistant, and in a concluding post as a research associate in 2011. Dr. Terekhov flourished as a computer technician at RM Consulting from 2005 to 2006. Previously, he has excelled as a research scientist engineer in the department of quantum electronics at the Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences from 2000 to 2005.
Dr. Terekhov has received numerous awards and grants, including a GRSP Award, Alabama EPSCoR, Award in 2008, and a Huygens grant by a Nuffic organization in 2000. He developed single frequency Cr doped ZnS Broadly Tunable Laser with Wavelength Modulation as a driver for the "Optical Nose" platform and realized organic molecular tracegas detection in the multipass cell using developed so called "Optical Nose". Dr. Terekhov co-authored more than 30 scientific publications and served as a speaker on multiple conferences and workshops. He considers the collaborative work he has performed with colleagues as the pinnacle of his career.
