Utilizing data analytics, drilled company's first horizontal wells, resulting in the fastest drilling times, at the lowest finding and operating costs, and best well performance and reserve recovery of any operator in the play.
• Production Optimization: Designed and implemented a gathering system expansion for R Lacy's Cotton Valley production providing low, intermediate and high pressure flow lines to allow new wells to be produced without negatively impacting existing producers. Implemented artificial lift program to alleviate liquid loading of low volume gas wells, delivering 300% improvement of well efficiency and productivity.
After graduation from college, Mr. Cherry's first employment was with Amoco Production Company wherein he was grounded in reservoir engineering as well as advanced drilling and completion operations. Since then he founded three successful independent oil companies during his professional career before embarking on his most recent fourth startup, Matterhorn Energy. In each of these companies, he led a multi-disciplined technical teams in delivering hundred-million-dollar-plus solutions that model how to optimize E&P performance in this era of new technology. Backed by years of experience, Mr. Cherry is quick to assess outcomes, plan winning strategies and deliver measurable successes.
Before entering his current role, Mr. Cherry flourished as the president of R Lacy/Crain Energy from 2013 to 2016 and as the executive vice president and a member of the board of directors for Bluestem Energy during the early 2010s. Throughout the earliest years of his career, he worked in various executive positions with such companies as Amoco Production Company, Andover Oil Company, Bristol Resources Corporation and CEC Energy Consultants. Although his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Cherry is especially proud of planning and supervising hundreds of vertical and horizontal drilling and completion operations in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma, performing data analytics and technical reviews for acquisitions in all major basins in the U.S., and leading Bluestem Energy in applying data analytics to identify acquisition prospects with development drilling opportunities in the Permian Basin.
In pursuit of his career, Mr. Cherry obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1975. Subsequently, he became designated as a professional petroleum engineer through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers. He has been a contributing member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers for over forty years, and contributes to the community he grew up in, through an advisory board position with the University of Texas at El Paso College of Science.
