CLARKSTON, MI, July 01, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kelley Kostin has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in economics, Ms. Kostin began her career with the Ford Motor company, where she worked for five years before pursuing her lifelong dream of attending law school. While she studying at the University of Detroit, she found success in a clerk position and with a local circuit court judge. Under this judge, Ms. Kostin was able to learn about the court system in depth and was eventually inspired to become a judge in her own right.
Ms. Kostin received a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1991 and promptly entered the field as an attorney. During this time, she had the opportunity to work as a magistrate assistant judge for a district court judge. Upon that judge's retirement, she was elected to the district position and has served as a judge in Oakland County, Michigan, for 16 years. In her current position, Ms. Kostin presides over misdemeanor criminal matters, preliminary examinations, civil and traffic matters, weddings, small claims cases and administrative issues.
Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Kostin has been active in numerous community organizations, including the Clarkston Area Optimist, the Notre Dame Preparatory Academy, and the Clarkston Chamber of Commerce, which recognized her as Clarkston's Youth Volunteer of the Year in 2002. She has also previously served as a board member of the Clarkston Coalition for Youth. Professionally, she is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Oakland County Bar Association, a fellow of the Oakland County Bar Foundation and a member of the Oakland County District Judge's Association. Ms. Kostin also serves on the Oakland County Community Corrections Advisory Board.
As a dedicated member of her community, Ms. Kostin formed the local sobriety and veteran's therapy courts, and actively works to reduce recidivism by educating the public about the dangers of drug abuse through her work with RADEO (Regional Anti-Drug Education and Outreach). She is also a contributing author to the Institute of Continuing Legal Education publication, Michigan Drunk Driving Law and Practice, Fifth Edition. Civically, Ms. Kostin sponsors an annual walk for SCAMP, a summer camp for special needs children and young adults. Looking toward the future, she plans to continue on her current path to success.
