MERCER ISLAND, WA, July 01, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nancy Lee has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
For more than 30 years, Ms. Lee has built a reputation as a strategic and conscientious social marketing expert. Her work focuses on influencing behavior change for social good, ones to improve public health, decrease injuries, protect the environment and engage communities. She has developed campaigns for clients including national agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control, and the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as numerous Washington State governmental agencies at the state, county and local levels. Ms. Lee initially obtained a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from the University of Illinois before earning a Master of Business Administration in marketing from the University of Puget Sound in 1980.
Previously torn between pursuing a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Public Administration, Ms. Lee enrolled in a marketing class during her first quarter and recalls "falling deeply in love" with the profession. Driven by her desire to effect positive social change, she decided to specialize in social marketing. In 1983, Ms. Lee began her career as the director of marketing for Rainer Bank.
Ms. Lee discovered Social Marketing when, in 1990 as the director of marketing for Seattle Children's Hospital, she led a life vest campaign that was tied to a 25% increase among toddlers in a one-year period. The success of the campaign inspired her to continue working in public health and safety, and in 1993, she departed from the aforementioned hospital to establish Social Marketing Services Inc., a specialist consulting firm providing strategic planning, marketing research and program evaluation services for social marketing campaigns, those focused on behavior change for social good. Since 2017, Ms. Lee has served as a strategic advisor for C+C Social Marketing, a national public relations and marketing agency.
In addition to her exemplary work with her clients, Ms. Lee is passionate about educating the next generation of social marketing experts and providing professional development to others in her field. Since 2003, she has been active on the adjunct faculty at the University of Washington, having formerly flourished on the adjunct faculty at the University of South Florida's School of Public Health from 2005 to 2012. In 2019, Ms. Lee was recruited to the adjunct faculty at Boise State University, and she continues to provide workshops, teaches an online course that offers a professional certificate of completion from the International Social Marketing Association, and lectures for current social marketing practitioners around the world.
Ms. Lee has notably co-written 13 books on social marketing, 10 with Philip Kotler, including "Social Marketing: Behavioral Change for Social Good," which is currently in its sixth edition. Other books she coauthored includes "Policymaking for Citizen Behavior Change: A Social Marketing Approach" in 2011 and "Social Marketing for Public Health: Global Success Stories" in 2009. She and Philip Kotler are currently writing a new book on "100 Social Marketing Success Stories from Around the World." She holds numerous leadership roles in professional organizations, including service on the board of the International Social Marketing Association and the Social Marketing Association of North America. Ms. Lee has thrived as the founder and the president of the Pacific Northwest Social Marketing Association, and the president of the Washington chapter of the American Marketing Association.
Ms. Lee has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades throughout her career, most recently including a 2017 World Marketing Conference Outstanding Contribution to Social Marketing Award. She has also been recognized as a 2015 SAGE Cornerstone Author and Northwestern University's 2012 Distinguished Social Marketer of the Year. A hands-on community advocate, Ms. Lee donates her time as a volunteer for the Mercer Island Green Ribbon Commission, and the Rotary Club of Mercer Island, for which she has been a past president.
