Kostis with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Kostis celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Now retired from a respected career in library science, Ms. Kostis enjoyed more than three decades as a public and school librarian. Originally aligned with the U.S. Government Information Services via the State Department for two years, she was subsequently hired by the Colegio Jorge Washington in Cartagena, Colombia. Ms. Kostis also held roles in the U.S. with the Oak Park Public Library System in Illinois and the Dade County Public School District in Miami, Florida, after which she joined the Millcreek Township School District in Erie, Pennsylvania, as a librarian from 1985 until 2010. In addition, she coordinated gifted education programs for 13 years.

In 1994, while working in Erie, PA, Ms. Kostis also seized the opportunity to serve as a teaching fellow at Osborne Primary School in Victoria, Australia. While teaching, Ms. Kostis became involved with FIRST in Manchester, New Hampshire, as a robotics advisor. Serving in that capacity for more than a decade between 1996 and 2009, the organization is notably a leading non-profit global community that helps advance science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

Throughout her diverse career, Ms. Kostis has contributed articles to various professional journals. She has been included in Geography Teacher, which is published by the National Council for Geographic Education. Cited in the publication in March 2009, it featured her commitment to People to People International as a delegation leader of its student ambassador program in Spokane, Washington, between 1996 and 2012. The program was notably involved in taking high school students abroad for two to three weeks during the summer months for cultural and educational learning. Between 2006 and 2014, she was also a delegation leader for the PTP domestic programs in Washington, D.C. and Stanford University in California.

A dedicated civic advocate, Ms. Kostis very much enjoyed contributing to her community and served on a variety of committees and community organizations. In addition to her time spent with People to People International, she served as an academic advisor for the professional high school players of the Erie Otters Hockey Team, a member of the Canadian Hockey League. Ms. Kostis has also been active as a parishioner at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Erie.

To prepare for her career, Ms. Kostis received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education at Valparaiso University in 1969, after which she earned a Master of Arts in Library Science at Dominican University in 1972. She completed graduate certification in gifted education in Pennsylvania. Aligned with several significant professional organizations in relation to her career, she is a member of the School Librarians Association, the American Library Association and the Pennsylvania School Education Association. She has also become an active member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees since retirement. Recognized in 2009, Ms. Kostis received the Woodie Flowers Award from FIRST for recognition of outstanding motivation to her robotics team.
