AIEA, HAWAII, July 07, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joshua Walker has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Supported by professional experience in volleyball worldwide, Mr. Walker excels in his roles as an assistant men's volleyball coach at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In this role, he organizes, runs, and records practices, handles national and global recruiting, oversees academic progress of student-athletes and creates scouting reports for each opponent. Mr. Walker also handles necessary paperwork for travel, recruiting and other documentation necessary for National Collegiate Athletic Association compliance.
Serving in his current role since 2015, Mr. Walker additionally worked at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships National Division in 2019 and 2017. He served as an assistant coach in 2017 and was the head coach for the Southern California Volleyball Association Boys' Select Team in 2019. Dedicated to the sport across numerous mediums, he has coached girls' volleyball as well. He coached a club team from his hometown, called Beach Elite, in Spring 2013, he worked camps for the University of Hawai'i women's program in the summer of 2015, and he helped coach and run practices for the A'o a Koa Volleyball Club boys and girls teams from 2015 through 2017. In 2019, Mr. Walker was recognized as the National Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Mr. Walker earned a Bachelor of Science in English from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2011 while serving as one of the varsity men's volleyball team's consistent leaders in kills as an outside hitter. The record-breaking player was on the roster from 2007 to 2011, and by the end of his collegiate career he totaled more than 1,400 kills and currently ranks fifth in program history. Mr. Walker was named to the All-MPSF second team in 2011 and qualified for the All-MPSF third team, as well as the second team AVCA All-America in 2010.
After graduating, Mr. Walker took his volleyball career overseas to Greece, Denmark, Finland and the United Arab Emirates. Between 2014 and 2015, he earned distinction as an All-Star in the Finland Volleyball League, and likewise earned MVP honors during his time in Denmark in 2014. Mr. Walker is now a member of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Athletics, and dedicates his extracurricular time to family and community outreach like grade school appearances to read to children and run free volleyball youth clinics.
Mr. Walker's passion for volleyball began in middle school watching his older sister play. Surmising that the sport might increase his skill at basketball, he chose to compete in volleyball in opposition to football when he got to high school. Coming of age in Virginia Beach, Virginia, he was surrounded by the influence of football and basketball, but as his volleyball skills strengthened, he began receiving interest and scholarship offers from various Division 1 level schools for volleyball. Meanwhile, Mr. Walker was only offered Division 2 opportunities for basketball, leading him to decide to pursue volleyball in the Aloha state.
Mr. Walker attributes his success to the support of his family, and to his current boss, who was his college volleyball coach. He also takes great comfort in the strength of his Christian faith. Looking toward the future, Mr. Walker aspires to serve as a head coach at a university. Wherever his professional journey carries him, he aims to bring success to the program, athletic excellence, and improvement to all of his players.
