Additionally, he serves as the executive vice president of strategy for Lee Enterprises Consulting, Inc. and as a board chair for Fermentum. With Lee Enterprises, Mr. Stone manages renewable chemicals, anaerobic digestion, water treatment, industrial biotechnology, synthetic biology and bio-ethanol.
Previously, Mr. Stone worked as the president of the North America division and the vice president of global engineering for Green Biologics, the president for Central MN Renewables LLC and the chief executive officer of butylfuel LLC. During the 1990s and 2000s, he gained valuable expertise in leadership positions for such companies as Osage Bio Energy, ASAlliances Biofuels LLC, Abengoa Bioenergy Corporation, Balchem Corporation, SunOpta and Enzytech/Opta. At the beginning of his career, he was active with several different companies, including Tate & Lyle, Ultrasystems, Harbert Lummus Joint Venture and Genencor Inc. Although his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Stone is especially proud of developing one of the first ethanol facilities built by A. E. Staley as well as ASAlliances Biofuels.
An expert in his field, Mr. Stone earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1975. The following year, he graduated with a Master of Science in chemical and biochemical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr, Stone is affiliated with the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Biotechnology Innovation Organization, the Biorenewable Deployment Consortium, and the Renewable Fuels Association.
A devoted community advocate, Mr. Stone has contributed as a member of the board of advisors for Business Climate Leaders since 2017. In light of his professional achievements, he was honored among the 100 Top People in the Bioeconomy and accepted the Inaugural Award from Thomas for Industry.
