Barbara Harper Hartsfield's lifelong dedication to nursing and entrepreneurship has brought her a diverse array of accomplishments.
ELLENWOOD, GA, July 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barbara Harper Hartsfield has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Ms. Hartsfield's lifelong dedication to nursing and entrepreneurship has brought her a diverse array of accomplishments, including more than 52 years of clinical practice, career writing about young children and collectibles, and the establishment of an internationally recognized miniature chair museum.
Ms. Hartsfield earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Tuskegee University in 1968. She began working as a staff nurse with adult patients in hospitals throughout Alabama, Georgia, and New York. During this time, a passion developed for the care of mentally ill patients.
In 1972, Ms. Hartsfield began working for Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She continues to practice there with adult patients, as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. In 1975, she earned a Master's of Arts in Guidance & Counseling from Clark Atlanta University. Ms. Hartsfield has been certified as an APRN with the American Nurses Association since 1990.
With having a concern for pregnant mentally ill mothers and their young children, Ms. Hartsfield earned a Master's of Science in Child/Adolescent Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, with a focus on the 0-3 population, from Georgia State University in 1992. She has been invited to speak about her early intervention research at numerous professional conferences.
In 1991, while writing an article on infant/toddler mental health, she purchased a baby doll and high chair to set the mood to write. Charmed by the wide variety of miniature chairs, she started collecting them as a hobby. Hartsfield's miniature chair collection, (not doll furniture), increased over the past 30 years and established a Guinness World Record for having 3,000 miniature chairs, in 2008.
In 2007, Ms. Hartsfield reduced her working hours with Grady Memorial Hospital to focus on opening a museum. Collectible & Antique Chair Gallery, a three room museum with a gift shop, opened in Stone Mountain, Georgia, within a historic house, (constructed in 1850). The museum is a member of the Georgia Museum Association and has been featured in local, national, and international publications.
The collection is the inspiration for her pending 2020 publication, "My ABC Chair Book," an alphabet training book for young children. In 2020, Hartsfield celebrated 48 years with Grady Memorial Hospital and 11 years with the museum. She sees both these careers as focusing on her interest with mental health. Her goal is to fully retire from the hospital and focus on promoting the museum.
