Ronald Eric Hemingway Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

An accomplished listee, Dr. Hemingway celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Prior to his retirement, Dr. Hemingway garnered a laudable reputation as an environmental chemist, educator and consultant, whose exemplary career included a tenured position with the renowned American chemical company, DuPont. Joining the company in 1974 as a research chemist, he advanced through various positions of high leadership for the next 25 years in Wilmington and Newark, Delaware and Paris, France. Finding success in the positions of research manager and director, he was ultimately named as a research fellow between 1994 and 1999. Dr. Hemingway subsequently began a second career in academia, and taught environmental toxicology and risk assessment at the University of Delaware for three years. His final position in the field was as an assistant professor in the chemistry department of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.

Throughout the course of his professional journey, Dr. Hemingway has delivered lectures abroad throughout Tokyo, Manila, the Philippines and Bangkok, specifically on conducting field pesticide residue trials for crop protection chemicals used in developing countries. Moreover, he served as a visiting scientist at the University of Texas in 2008. Dr. Hemingway has also spoken at several national and international conferences, excelled on the governing board of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene in Cincinnati and has been active with the GIFAP (International Group of National Associations of Manufacturers of Agrochemical Products).

As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Hemingway has disseminated many of his research findings to various scholarly journals, including in the Journal of the American Chemical Society. To wit, he has discussed such topics as the multi-concentration exposure calibration system, the inhalation of halon, as well as occupational accidents and diseases in the chemical industry. Dr. Hemingway was also on the editorial board of the Journal of Environmental Science and Health from 1996 to 1999.

Well-regarded as an avid community advocate, Dr. Hemingway formerly maintained involvement as the chairperson of the Young Life of Chester County and the Youth Ministries Emmanuel Baptist Church in Paris, France. He also chaired the board of The Star of the West Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides undergraduate, graduate and summer abroad scholarships to highly qualified Citadel cadets. Since 2008, Dr. Hemingway has been mission's chairperson for over 10 years at Eastbridge PCA church in Mount Pleasant, SC supporting through prayer and finances over 25 local and world missions.

Dr. Hemingway acquired a Bachelor of Science in chemistry at The Citadel in 1968 before serving for two years in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant between 1968 and 1970. He later attained a Doctor of Philosophy in analytical chemistry at the University Texas in 1974. Eminently qualified in his field, he is certified in the chemical aspects of industrial hygiene. To remain aware of developments effecting the field, Dr. Hemingway has been a member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and the American Chemical Society.

Recognized for his military achievements, Dr. Hemingway received an Outstanding Officer and Graduate Chemical Officer Basic Course Award in 1968 and an Army Commendation Award in 1970. In respect to his academic career, he was bestowed with the Algernon Sydney-Sullivan Award in 1968, and was the recipient of the C.A. Medberry Outstanding Teaching Award in 2012. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Hemingway has been featured in the fifth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
