Additionally, Dr. Barnes was the Medical Director and a staff physician for Concentra Occupational Health in Fort Worth, Texas, as well as a Lead and staff physician for Parkland Health and Hospital. She served as Medical Director for 2 clinics with the John Peter Smith Hospital System.
Dr. Barnes has excelled on the Board of Directors for the Sickle Cell Disease of Tarrant County and the Dallas Health Start. She is a member of the Affordable Care Act Coalition of North Texas as well. One of Dr. Barnes' proudest achievements has included the development of an initiative called Productive Living Always Young, or P.L.A.Y. Designed for people over the age of 50, it incorporates physical activity that does not feel like routine exercise to keep it interesting and fun. Copyrighting the name in 2014, Dr. Barnes has plans to expand the program in various ways, including with a national P.L.A.Y date.
A talented writer, Dr. Barnes has co-authored 2 Anthologies in the past year, the first book becoming an Amazon Bestseller. She has just signed on for her third Anthology to be released in 2021. She has also written articles in various professional papers and has served as a contributing medical expert in Prevention Magazine between 2018 and 2020. Dr. Barnes has also served as a Public Speaker at area churches, medical centers and at community locations. She has been interviewed on the radio and on television in her area of expertise.
Dr. Barnes' distinguished record of leadership reaches into her community as well. Through the Celebration Life Foundation in Dallas, she served as Board President. She was active as the Director of medical ministry at her church. She also volunteered with Mission Arlington and with various other local organizations supporting the homeless and the sick. Since 2001, Dr. Barnes has been aligned with The Potter's House Church in Dallas as a mentor and speaker for the debutante program. Attaining a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Pre-medicine at East Carolina University in 1981, Dr. Barnes subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine at East Carolina University in 1987.Shortly thereafter, she completed her residency specialty training in Family Medicine at the Riverside Family Practice Residency Program (Virginia Commonwealth University) between 1987 and 1990. Eminently qualified in her field, Dr. Barnes is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Physicians.
To support her professional career, Dr. Barnes is a member of the Dallas chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She is also a member of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, the Dallas Academy of family Physicians, and several other industry-related organizations. In 2000, Dr. Barnes was awarded the Distinction as Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
In 2005, Dr. Barnes was celebrated with a Mentor of the Year Award from the Core Debutante Program. Moreover, she was also named as one of America's Top Family Doctors by Consumers' Research Council ofAmericafor2007, a Top Doctor in Texas for 20 17 and was nominated as the Citizen of the Year by the Grand Prairie, Texas, Chamber of Commerce in 2018.
