Ms. Aby, a family lawyer, focuses her practice on specializing in adoption and termination of parental rights, divorce and complex custody issues, including conservatorships and guardianships and felony and misdemeanor criminal defense. While pursuing her education, she attained a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi, and earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Mississippi College in 2002. Drawn to working on behalf of children, and called to criminal law after witnessing first-hand the effects of class and locational privilege on the outcomes of certain cases, Ms. Aby was inspired to represent clients who may not have otherwise been able to access quality representation.
Heather Aby began her legal career with Butler, Snow, LLP where she worked until 2005. Since that time. Ms. Aby has been a member/partner of other firms until June 2020 when she stepped out and started Aby Law, PLLC and therein fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning her own law practice.
As a part of her commitment to ensuring fair trials for all accused persons, Ms. Aby has excelled as a Madison County public defender since 2013. Ms. Aby also has a private state and federal criminal practice.
Her private practice continues to focus primarily on family law, and she believes that her broad experience in the Mississippi justice system and knowledge of the regional legal community as a whole speaks to her skill and reputation for quality and empathy. Outside of her work in law, Ms. Aby is a passionate baseball fan, and is the owner of the Hattiesburg Black Sox Baseball Club, making her the only female franchise owner of an amateur club in the United States. She attributes her success in all things to her strength, perseverance and unwavering support of her husband, Trey Aby, Ms. Aby looks forward to continued success practicing law with her daughter Tanner Aby Walker.
