Jerome Harwood (Jerry) considers the highlight of his career to be the lasting impact that he has had on his students and passengers, and he treasures seeing former students in the community.
BURLINGTON, KY, July 29, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jerome Harwood has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Harwood is a retired educator, school bus driver and joke book author celebrating more than four decades of expertise in working with children and young adults. An alumnus of Ohio University and Xavier University, he graduated with a Master of Arts in government and education. In 1967 he began working at the secondary level as a special education teacher in Grove City, Ohio. Mr. Harwood then continued his teaching career with the Norwood and Cincinnati School districts as a seventh and eighth grade classroom teacher. While at the Cincinnati School District, he also held a variety of instructional and educational support roles.
Mr. Harwood briefly entered the private sector as an employee of the Levi Strauss Company in Florence, Kentucky for one year. He then returned to teaching at Ockerman Elementary School in Florence as a sixth grade teacher. He retired from teaching in 2001, but continued driving the school bus until 2016 for the district. Mr. Harwood says that he is so glad that he finally decided to return to teaching and also become a school bus driver, because he can think of no other careers that could be so fulfilling as helping children to learn and develop well. Mr. Harwood also believes that if he had not had the privilege of being with all those children for all those years, he would not have written even one book. Mr. Harwood's time entertaining students on the bus and using humor to manage safety and behavior became the genesis of his first book, "Jokes for Kids from the School Bus," which was released in 2006.
"Jokes for Kids from the School Bus" was quickly followed by "A Joke Book for Kids" in 2010, a second illustrated volume of good jokes and puns for children of all ages. Mr. Harwood's books are available signed from the author, and in paperback and digital formats through Amazon. He continues to write and maintain a digital presence on his personal website and has published three more volumes for young readers, as well as a joke book for older audiences, and produces illustrated monthly calendar pages for children. He considers the highlight of his career to be the lasting impact that he has had on his students and passengers, and he treasures seeing former students in the community. In the coming years, Mr. Harwood looks forward to continuing to publish his monthly calendars and continues to find humor where ever he can.
