A leader in the nonprofit sector for more than five decades, Mr. Toscano established Toscano Advisors in Portland, Oregon, in 2019 as its principal. Collaborating with Dania Toscano, who serves as the organization's president, the two provide services in strategic planning, executive recruitment, interim leadership and executive mentoring, as well as capital and endowment campaigns, board and staff training, and constituency development. An accomplished author, in 1964, Mr. Toscano co-wrote and edited "The Integration of Political Communities." That same year, he scribed "The Chief Elected Official in the Penjerdel Region."
Mr. Toscano is the former president of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, where he was involved in its successful revitalization. He is also the former senior vice president of American Medical Centers Inc. and enjoyed 25 years as the executive vice president and head of research and education of the Park Nicollet Institute. Among other significant roles, Mr. Toscano was the president of the Minnesota Museum of Art and the managing and executive director of the World Press Institute, where he oversaw an international journalist program, through which students were trained on how to become successful U.S. correspondents.

In addition to his full-time commitments, he devoted 35 years as an adjunct professor. Mr. Toscano also taught nonprofit management in the school of management at the University of Saint Thomas, as well as resource development and management in the school of business at Hamline University.
Mr. Toscano has provided his expert services to over 50 boards and commissions. He was affiliated with World Press Insurance for 35 years on the board of directors, and as an executive committee member and secretary-treasurer between 1972 and 2007. Moreover, he was the chairperson of the Minnesota Charities Revie Council until 2008, was on the board of directors of the Summit Ave Residential Preservation Association until 2006, the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits until 2003 and was a member of the Minnesota Healthcare Commission until 1997. Mr. Toscano has remained active on the board of directors of the City of Lakes Waldorf School since 2014.
An alumnus of Rutgers College, Mr. Toscano received a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in 1959. He subsequently attended the prestigious Yale University, where he completed a Master of Arts in 1960. During that same year, he was the recipient of a Woodrow Wilson National fellowship. Mr. Toscano also studied survey research and interviewing at the Bureau of Applied Social Research at Columbia University.
