Following three decades of inimitable service to the U.S. Army, Col. Hettich retired in 2017, having attained the rank of a Colonel. Presently, he works part-time as a technical director for Center Stage Productions, as a deputy ranger police officer for Lake County Forest Preserve in Libertyville, Illinois, and as a court security police officer for the Lake County Sheriff's Department in Waukegan, Illinois. Col. Hettich previously worked as a contract investigator for Next Level Investigations in Chantilly, Virginia, from 2018 to 2019.
An expert in psychological operations and civil affairs, Col. Hettich notably served five combat deployments in Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo and the Horn of Africa between 2003 and 2014. During his military career, he also mobilized for Operation Enduring Freedom to command the 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) and has commanded at all levels, including as a special forces' detachment commander. Branch qualified in civil affairs, psychological operations, signal, transportation and medical services, he also boasts 19 additional skill identifiers and two PDI/PDSIs. Col. Hettich's assignment just prior to his retirement included serving the 451st ESC in a brigadier general command, McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, Kansas.
Col. Hettich has been actively involved in his community for many years. Among his commitments as a civic advocate, he found success as the President of the Petite Lakes Gardens Home Owners Association and as a board member of the Antioch Parks and Recreation Commission. Moreover, Col. Hettich is a Cub Scout Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 111 and the chairperson of his local Boy Scouts of America's North Star district.
Col. Hettich received a diploma and became a certified police officer through the North-Eastern Illinois Police Academy. He also received a Bachelor of Arts in communications arts and technical theater at Barat College of DePaul University, a Master of Arts in theater arts at Northern Illinois University and a second master's degree in strategic studies at the U.S. Army War College. Eminently qualified in his field, Col. Hettich holds a credential as a contract investigator, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration 511 certificate, a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Standards of Excellence in Emergency Management certificate and is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
To remain aware of developments affecting his area of expertise, Col. Hettich maintains his professional affiliation with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (Vice Commander) and Antioch American Legion (Adjutant) as a lifetime member, as well as the Illinois Department Reserve Organization Association as a life member and vice president. Other lifetime memberships to his credit include the Special Forces Association, the Civil Affairs Association and the Psychological Operations Association. Additionally, Col. Hettich is active as a member of Antioch Masonic Lodge as an apprentice mason and the Saint Bede Knights of Columbus, fourth degree, as a recorder.
In 2018, Col. Hettich was an Honor 200 recipient, which recognized 200 veterans for the Illinois Bicentennial who continuously make extraordinary contributions to the people of Illinois. That same year, he received the General Winfield Scott Bronze Medallion from the U.S. Army. He has also received numerous other accolades in recognition of his military service, including three Meritorious Honor Awards, a Legion of Merit Medal and two Bronze Star Medals for Meritorious Achievements in Combat Operations. Additionally, Col. Hettich was the recipient of an Outstanding Eagle Scout Award and a Silver Palm from the Boy Scouts of America. He has been featured in Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
