In this role, she is active in a number of diverse responsibilities, including state hospital admittance for the mentally ill, temporary and permanent guardianships, various election duties, performing marriages and presiding over the commissioners court on budgetary and administrative matters regarding county government operations. Likewise, Ms. Tanner maintains appellate jurisdiction over justice courts in Potter County, operates as the head of civil defense and disaster relief, prepares the county budget alongside the county auditor and presides over certain criminal, civil and probate matters.
A native of Amarillo, Ms. Tanner began her career with the aforementioned city's tax department before deciding to focus on building her family, raising her son and daughter for a number of years before re-entering the workforce. She subsequently worked as an office manager for the Potter County Attorney, which she considers an integral period in her professional endeavors, and as an assistant for an orthopedic surgeon, a post in which she observed surgeries and refined her communication skills as well as her attention to detail. From 1993 until 2013, Ms. Tanner found success as an administrative assistant for County Judge Arthur Ware, a tenure that prepared her greatly for her present position.
Notably, Ms. Tanner has been recognized as the first female county judge to serve in Potter County. Moreover, she has contributed to her community through the establishment of both a food bank and food drive within her county. In 2015, she additionally cemented her status in public service as the keynote speaker for new U.S. citizens at a naturalization ceremony and as the co-host for students on County Government Day. Ms. Tanner remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise, including Amarillo Republican Women and the League of Women Voters.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Tanner was acknowledged as the Woman of the Year by the Amarillo chapter of Beta Sigma Pi International in 2018. Attributing her success to her interpersonal relationships and her natural affection for people, she cites her near lifelong efforts in local government as a critical attribute to her election as a county judge. Looking toward the future, Ms. Tanner aspires to continue flourishing as the county judge for Potter County, as she loves the citizens and the location.
Upon retirement, Judge Tanner plans to spend much needed time with her two children, Jason Langford and Amy Cassles and of course her 4 grandchildren, Jacey Langford, George, Gabriel and Ian Cassles.
