FREMONT, CA, August 11, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ujwala S. Agharkar has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
While enrolled in medical school, Dr. Agharkar wanted to pursue a career in surgery. However, she soon realized that she enjoyed interacting with patients and hearing their personal stories in a way that surgeons could not. Dr. Agharkar was also inspired by her aunt who is a child psychiatrist.
Dr. Agharkar earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from B.J. Medical College in Pune, India before completing residency training at the University of Missouri in Kansas City and University of California, Davis, in 1990. She is double Board Certified in General Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She worked in private practice for three years before joining The Permanente Medical Group (Kaiser Permanente) in 1993. As a senior physician in the Department of Psychiatry at Kaiser Fremont, Dr. Agharkar is primarily responsible for the medication management of children, teenagers and developmentally disabled young adults with emotional and behavior problems.
In her practice, Dr. Agharkar offers consultation to a team of mental health therapists and pediatricians. She also serves as a physician wellness leader and provides educational activities and presentations to professionals and the community. Additionally, Dr. Agharkar maintains her professional affiliation with the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
For her contributions to her patients and colleagues, Dr. Agharkar received the Service Excellence Award from Fremont Kaiser in 2008. Over the years, she has attributed her professional success to her upbringing and ethical values as well as a very supportive team of colleagues. After losing her father at a young age and watching her family struggle after his death, she learned the value of higher education in building a comfortable and successful life. Her grandmother was her foremost role model as a child, in terms of overcoming challenges and connecting with people. Looking toward the future, Dr. Agharkar plans to retire within the next few years while dedicating her spare time to volunteering for children with cancer and their families, traveling around the world, spending time with family/friends and enjoying creative art projects.
