Inspired by his father, who is also a physician, Dr. Chen excels as a physician with Hill Park Medical Center, with which he began in 2017 as a family medicine physician. Prior to his current position, he gained valuable expertise in the integrative medicine field with Visions Health Care in Massachusetts, for which he provided primary care services and utilized a functional medicine perspective to discover the root cause of his patients' illnesses. Additionally, Dr. Chen served as a family physician for Harvard Vanguard between 2008 and 2012.
During the early years of his career, Dr. Chen found success as a family physician for the Manet CommunityHealth Center, where he assisted patients who did not have commercial insurance, and as a locum tenens physician with CompHealth, through which he travelled across the United States as a temporary physician. Between 1993 and 1994, he worked in a center in central California, a military installation in Tennessee, an HMO in Arizona, a student health center in Illinois, a private practice in Maine and a community health center in New Jersey. Although his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of channeling his considerable knowledge into writing a book. Through this medium, Dr. Chen is sharing the stories of patients that he has healed to demonstrate how he practices medicine, which is unique from others in that he melds together his genetics, biochemistry, physiology, herbs, and energy knowledge while diagnosing and formulating treatments.
In pursuit of his career in medicine, Dr. Chen earned a Bachelor of Science in biology, with high honors, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1988. Two years later, he obtained a Doctor of Medicine from Albany Medical College before completing a residency at somerset Medical Center. Over the years, Dr. Chen has also become certified in functional medicine, genetic nutrition by the Nutrigenetic Research Institute and clinical homeopathy by the Center for Education and Development of Homeopathy.
Dr. Chen remains professional affiliated with the Institute of Functional Medicine, Alpha Omega Alpha and the American Academy of Family Physicians in order to remain aware of changes in the field. A champion of the community, he has contributed to those in need as a volunteer through Daybreak Pregnancy Resources in the past. Looking forward, Dr. Chen aims to make integrative medicine more available to the community by using innovative diagnostic and treatment methods.
