Ms. Patrick-Skadberg is renowned as an entrepreneur and career swim instructor who has dedicated more than 25 years to sharing her love of aquatics with others. Born in Northern California and raised sailing and swimming with her parents, she was devastated when her family relocated to Nevada during her teenage years. In order to maintain a semblance of her old life, Ms. Patrick-Skadberg began lifeguarding at the local municipal pool, quickly realizing the importance of swimming and water safety skills, particularly for people who had not learned them at a young age as she had.
In 1992, Ms. Patrick-Skadberg became appointed as the aquatic director of her local public pool. Three years later, she began teaching American Red Cross water safety programs as well. Recalling her own formative experiences as a lifeguard, she provided her wealth of knowledge to others through lifeguard instruction and training camps in 1997. For more than two decades, Ms. Patrick-Skadberg would continue to share her passion for water safety with others as the director of several municipal pools and as a private swim safety instructor at country club facilities.
The culmination of her lifelong dream to change lives and empower swimmers with life-saving water safety skills, Ms. Patrick-Skadberg established Waves Swim & Safety Training in 2014. Leading a team of instructors, she provides private and Red Cross Certification lessons to more than 300 students each week in a private, year-round saline pool facility. Waves Swim & Safety Training was voted as the Best of Reno in 2017, 2018 and 2020.
Ms. Patrick-Skadberg continues her dedication to offering the highest-quality instruction to each client by maintaining a roster of American Red Cross safety certifications. She is also actively affiliated with the United States Swim School Association, the National Parks and Recreation Association and the Association of Aquatic Professionals. As a part of her commitment to community and youth development in all forms, Ms. Patrick-Skadberg is an active member of the Junior League of Reno, and looks forward to helping cultivate the next generation of safe swimmers and divers for decades to come.
