Having accrued more than four and a half decades of inimitable expertise in the field of legal services, Mr. Street has garnered a laudable reputation as the principal of J. Stephen Street Attorney at Law. As a dedicated lawyer, Mr. Street has received many accolades and awards throughout his career. He was most recently named Lawyer of the Year in Copyright Law by Best Lawyers. For several years, he has been listed among Super Lawyers of Hawaii, Best Lawyers in Hawaii, Best Law Firms by U.S. News & World Report, and Top 25 Lawyers in Honolulu by Super Lawyers. Mr. Street began his career in 1973 at a law firm in Washington D.C. before serving as a JAG in the U.S. Air Force in Hawaii. He returned to Washington D.C. law firm after his Air Force commitment and later served as Vice President and General Counsel to a trade association there. In 1981 he returned to Hawaii and became a partner at Rush Moore LLP, where he served for nearly 30 years. In 2010 he established his own solo practice so he could focus on intellectual property litigation.
While coming of age, Mr. Street long aspired to become a lawyer. He drew a wealth of inspiration from his father, who was a lawyer and served in the Air Force. Mr. Street went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science from Southern Methodist University, a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Virginia Law School and a Master of Arts in economics from the University of Virginia.
Civically, Mr. Street has volunteered much of his time and expertise to Special Olympics, on the local, national and international levels . He previously chaired the International Advisory Committee for the Special Olympics, Inc., and has coached as well as serving on the Hawaii Board, U.S. Leadership Council, North American Leadership Council and the Special Olympics, Inc. Board. Mr. Street has attributed his professional success to a propensity for hard work, having always been grateful to represent artists and photographers throughout his career. He maintains his professional affiliation with the D.C. Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Copyright Society of America. In the coming years, Mr. Street plans to retire from his practice.
