Prior to these appointments, he worked at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center as a resident until 1977. He began his career as an intern at the aforementioned university in 1972. Dr. Goldberg has notably served in the U.S. Air Force, advancing through the ranks to Major, during which time he received the Meritorious Service Medal in 1980.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Goldberg pursued an education at Drexel University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1967 and a Master of Science in biomedical engineering in 1968. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Medical Science from Rutgers Medical School, a part of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in 1970. He concluded his studies at Thomas Jefferson University in 1972, graduating from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College with a Doctor of Medicine. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Goldberg was certified to practice by the American Board of Surgery in 1978 and every ten years since then.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Goldberg has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. In 2017, he was recognized by the Natural Athlete Strength Association with the National Record for his Age and Weight Class in Deadlifting. A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he was presented with a Pathology Award, a Neurosciences Award from Rutgers Medical School, the Urology Prize from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College, a Suggestion Award from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and a Teaching Award from the Malcolm Grow Medical Center with the U.S. Air Force. Likewise, Dr. Goldberg was bestowed with a Best Doctor Award from Phoenix Magazine in 1997.
Dr. Goldberg was attracted to the field of medicine during his time at Drexel University, having originally intended on conducting engineering research in medicine. After being advised about the difficulty in obtaining grants as an engineer by physicians, he eventually turned his attention toward medicine full time and never looked back, especially as he had a family to support. He was further motivated by his mentors, Drs. Watts Webb and Patricia Newman. In a career suffused with highlights, he was most proud to be of service to his patients. Looking toward the future, Dr. Goldberg hopes to practice for a number of years before returning to academia to refine his skills and interest in subjects to which he could not dedicate his time in his youth. His other interests include horseback riding, shooting and model railroading.
