Mr. Martin excelled as a partner at Quarles and Brady in Milwaukee from 1980 to 2005, after previously contributing to the aforementioned firm as an associate from 1973 to 1980. He formerly held the role of the director of the Associated Bank of Milwaukee, U-Line Corporation, Eldorado State Bank, Bolens Corporation, Open Pantry, Foundation for Wildlife Conservation, General Timber and Land Inc., Cruisers Inc., among other corporations. Notably, Mr. Martin has been admitted to practice law by the State Bar of Wisconsin, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Originally interested in becoming an engineer, Mr. Martin obtained a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1969 (Tau Beta Pi, Phi Eta Sigma). Soon thereafter, he worked for a year as a sales support manager in the newly formed computer products division at Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, CA, while simultaneously completing postgraduate coursework at the University of Santa Clara. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Martin concluded his studies at the University of Michigan in 1973, J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif.
Over the years, Mr. Martin has been affiliated with several professional and governmental organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, the SBA National Advisory Council, and the Governor's Council on Small Business. Moreover, he was active as the past chairman of the Governor McCallum Transition Committee, a class agent and member of the Dean's Council for the University Michigan Law School, and the emeritus director of the Milwaukee Zoological Society. A director and a manager of the Minnesota Wild, a National Hockey League team, Badger Liquor Company Inc., as well as an officer and the director of Caledonia Land Company Inc.
Club memberships include Explorers Club (NY), World Affairs Council Naples, Wings Club (NY), Chaine des Rottiseurs (Officier Commandeur), Rotary International, New York University Club, Milwaukee Club, Bonita Bay Club, Ozaukee Country Club, the Forum Club of Naples, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Delta Upsilon Fraternity.
Mr. Martin was selected for inclusion in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. Recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young, been honored with an AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, outstanding alumni Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and the Emu Egg Award from the Milwaukee Zoological Society.
