To wit, she served as the vice president for academy affairs at Northcentral University from 1998 to 2001, and was likewise the chief operating officer of MicoSeptic Inc. between 1997 and 1998, the director of engineering at Thomas Lighting from 1995 until 1996, the European program manager at TRW Technar between 1989 and 1994 and the vice president of D.C. Caldwell & Co. Inc. from 1987 to 1991. Additionally, she held the role of a project manager at General Research Corp. from 1987 until 1989, a project engineer and a manager of the electronic division at Northrop between 1981 and 1987 and a technology staff member at TRW Automotive in 1981. Dr. Forbes began her career as an engineer for the electro-mechanic division of Northrop from 1975 to 1980.
Beyond her primary career path, Dr. Forbes flourished in academia as an adjunct professor at Walden University, Regis University, the University of Maryland, Touro University, Argosy University and Capella University. A dedicated member of the Society of Women Engineers, she enjoys sharing her expertise with young engineers. Moreover, Dr. Forbes has been affiliated with several other professional organizations, including the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the American Association of University Women, the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering and the International Women Pilots Association.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Forbes pursued an education at California State University, Fullerton, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in physics in 1974 and a Master of Science in engineering in 1979. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Southern California where she earned a Master of Business Administration in 1983. She later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in executive management from Claremont Graduate University in 1993. Additionally, Dr. Forbes served in the United States Navy.
In recognition of her exceptional achievements, Dr. Forbes received a grant from the California State University Foundation in 1974, an Engineering Merit Award from the Orange County Engineering Council in 1985, the Excellence in Teaching Award from Regis University in 2006 and the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Women Engineers in 2007. Named as a Distinguished Alumni by California State University in 1986, she accepted the Shenk Award from Capella University in 2014, the Outstanding Engineering Educator Award from the Orange County Engineering Council in 2015 and a Lifetime Award from the Orange County Society of Women Engineers in 2019. Likewise, Dr. Forbes was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who of American Women.
