Having accrued more than 30 years of selfless service as a U.S. Marine officer, Dr. Yurovich undertook three combat tours in Bosnia and three in Iraq, and concluded his career in 2006 at the rank of Colonel and the Commander of Carrier Air Wing 9. Responsible for directing combat-ready aviation operations for worldwide deployment, he was notably the first Marine Colonel ever to do so. During the length of his military career, Mr. Yurovich also held the role of Dominant Maneuver Division Chief of the Joint Chief of Staff where he led a 20-person division and the Joint Warfighting Capabilities Assessment team. Furthermore, he found success as the Studies, Analysis and Gaming Division Chief, where he was responsible to the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Lieutenant General in charge of the J-8. Mr. Yurovich also commanded Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251 "The Thunderbolts" flying the F/A-18 Hornet as a Lieutenant Colonel from 1998-2000.
Among his countless accomplishments during his time served in the military, Mr. Yurovich managed an operating budget of more than $1.5 billion with controlled assets exceeding $2.5 billion. He also instituted numerous innovative leadership and training initiatives to guarantee equipment-readiness and teamwork. In addition to his commitments in his field, Dr. Yurovich has been active on the advisory board of the Mathematics Department as the Alternate Chair at his alma mater, The Ohio State University, since 2016; and a member of the President's Club.
Upon retirement from the Marines, Mr. Yurovich began his civic career when he was hired by the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Aligned with the organization for more than a decade, he spent the first year as the director of strategic planning. He subsequently became the deputy division manager and the senior program manager and maintained activity on the ethics committee between 2008 and 2013 before being named as the vice president of programs at SAIC Quantico Conference Center. Pursuing other goals thereafter, he subsequently established Aviation Consulting Experience LLC as the president. Mr. Yurovich has also been the president of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Flying Club of Washington, D.C., since 2015, the assistant chief flight instructor and safety director of Piston2Jet since 2019, and a director of the Military Officers Association of America, Mount Vernon Chapter since 2020.
Other activities to Mr. Yurovich's credit include teaching and tutoring individuals between the ages of 16 and 78 to become licensed pilots and working with the FAA writing a test pilot syllabus for pilot training in Virginia. In 2000, Mr. Yurovich authored a monograph based on his personal experiences while attending the Army War College. An experienced writer, he also wrote an analysis of the air war in Kosovo, winning the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association Award.
Mr. Yurovich received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Education at the Ohio State University in 1979. He later completed the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) in 1985 and the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School in Maryland in 1990. Furthermore, Mr. Yurovich attained a Master of Science in aviation systems at the University of Tennessee in 1992, a master's degree in military art and science at the U.S. Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 1997, a Master of Science in strategic studies at the U.S. Army War College in 2001 and a Doctor of Philosophy in organization management and leadership with distinction at Capella University in 2015. Dr. Yurovich recently completed the executive program in artificial intelligence regarding implications for business strategy at the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2019. Eminently qualified in his field, he has been a designated naval aviator since 1981.
To support his military career, Mr. Yurovich is a member of The Army and Navy Club, the Association of Naval Aviation, the Marine Corps Aviation Association the Tailhook Association and the Disabled American Veterans' Commander's Club. He is also a life member of the Ohio State Alumni Association, a charter member of the Air and Space Smithsonian and a national contributing member of Smithsonian Associates. For his valorous and gallant service, Mr. Yurovich has been decorated multiple times with a Defense Superior Service Medal, two Legions of Merit, a Meritorious Service Medal, an Air Medal with Five Strike Flight awards, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, one with Combat V, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and two National Defense Medals, as well as other deployment medals and service ribbons.
