A seasoned writer, Mr. Lamberton has published more than 100 articles regarding science and nature, including "Time of Grace: Thoughts on Nature, Family and the Politics of Crime and Punishment," "Beyond Desert Walls: Essays from Prison," "Chasing Arizona: One Man's Yearlong Obsession with the Grand Canyon State" and "Dry River: Stories of Life, Death and Redemption on the Santa Cruz." Due to his considerable expertise, he has also served as an editor for The Sonora Review and Walking Rain Review. Additionally, Mr. Lamberton is consistently requested to lecture at churches and universities on the topics of creative writing, nature and family, to name a few.
In pursuit of his aspirations, Mr. Lamberton earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Arizona in 1981. Decades later, he obtained a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from his alma mater in 2002. He retains his professional alignment with the Common Council Foundation and the Association for Studies and Literature in the Environment in order to remain aware of changes in the field. Devoted to his community, Mr. Lamberton has contributed as a volunteer with the Coalition for Desert Protection and as an active member of the Sky Island Alliance.
For his outstanding accomplishments, Mr. Lamberton has been honored many times, accepting the May Clayton Hayes Award for Creative Nonfiction and two Pushcart Prize nominations for "Of Swallows and Doing Time" and "Raptors and Flycatchers" during the late 1990s. More recently, he was presented with the Eric Hoffer Notable Book Award from Time of Grace in 2008 and the Southwest Book of the Year Award for "Dry River" in 2011. Furthermore, Mr. Lamberton's acclaimed book "Chasing Arizona" was recognized with the New Mexico-Arizona Book Award and the Southwest Book of the Year Award in 2015.
In light of his writing expertise, Mr. Lamberton has also appeared on a plethora of radio and television shows, including Arizona Illustrated and National Public Radio, with which he discussed "To the Best of Our Knowledge" with Steve Paulson and "Living on Earth" with Steve Curwood. Even though his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of winning the John Burroughs Medal for natural history writing, as it is the highest honor that a nature writer can receive. Looking toward the future, Mr. Lamberton intends to continue writing about the region he loves and establish a foundation with his friend, Richard Sheldon.
