Dr. Randolph is renowned as a physicist and a former space program administrator with more than 45 years of accomplishment in his field. A gifted mathematics student, he discovered an interest in physics as a possible route to enter academia and conduct research without formally teaching. Initially obtaining a Bachelor of Science at Virginia State University in 1959, he continued his studies at Howard University, graduating with a Master of Science in 1964 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1972. Dr. Randolph subsequently completed postdoctoral coursework at Harvard University and the University of Maryland between 1975 to 1982.
From 1961 to 1967, Dr. Randolph began his career as a physicist for Harry Diamond Laboratories. Later working for the aforementioned laboratories as an army materials command research physicist from 1967 to 1975, he found much success with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) soon thereafter, flourishing as a program manager from 1975 to 1982, the deputy director of production from 1982 to 1984, the chief of productivity from 1984 to 1986 the chief of the management program from 1986 to 1990, and the manager of information technology standards from 1990 to 1995. Briefly serving as the director for the Quality Institute at Clark Atlanta University from 1995 to 1997, Dr. Randolph concluded his tenure at NASA as a university programs specialist from 1997 to 1999.
Formerly, Dr. Randolph has contributed to the adjunct faculty at Howard University and the University of the District of Columbia. He has additionally excelled as a private consultant to Texas Southern University since 2015. A member of the Maryland Governor's Commission on Technology in Higher Education, he further participates on the advisory board of the National Science Foundation's Transformation to Quality Organization. Notably, Dr. Randolph is a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a senior member of the IEEE.
