Now retired from an esteemed career in medicine after more than three decades, Dr. Kamp devoted the majority of his career to his private practice. Established in 1966, he specialized in radiology, caring for the needs of both children and adults, until 2004. Dr. Kamp was also affiliated with the Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa as a staff member, board director and chairperson of the department of radiology between 1990 and 2010. During his tenure in medicine, he also contributed much of his time conducting research and disseminating his findings in various scholarly journals.
Dr. Kamp completed a Bachelor of Arts, with high honors, at Hendrix College in 1956 and a Doctor of Medicine, with honors, at the University of Arkansas in 1960. Additional educational pursuits to his credit have included a residency in radiology at the University of Arkansas Medical Center, where he advanced to become a chief radiology resident. He then served to the rank of a captain in the U.S. Army in Vietnam between 1964 and 1966 and was a physician in the U.S. Army Medical Corps at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and South Vietnam. Dr. Kamp's mission, notably, was to provide medical support for covert military operations in Cambodia. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserves during medical college. Eminently qualified in his field, he is board certified in radiation oncology and diagnostic radiology.
An elected fellow of the American College Radiology, Dr. Kamp is a former counselor for Oklahoma, a position he held within the organization from 1986 to 1992. Likewise, he has excelled as a member of the board of chancellors since 1996. Among other pertinent organizations, Dr. Kamp is a past president of the Tulsa County Medical Society, a past president and former board director of the Oklahoma State Medical Association, as well as a former delegate for the Oklahoma region of the American Medical Association.
As a respected member of the medical community, Dr. Kamp utilized his wealth of expertise by serving on the advisory committee of telemedicine of the Federal Communications Commission during 1996. He was also active with the Tulsa City-County Health Department as a board member from 1978 until 1991 and as the chairperson of the board of directors between 1981 and 1991. In recognition of Dr. Kamp's military service, he received a Vietnam Service Medal and an Army Commendation Medal from the U.S. Army.
