Mr. Bain is an attorney with nearly six decades of practice specializing in all aspects of commercial law, including business trials and litigation. Mr. Bain earned a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1957 and pursued his legal education at Harvard, earning a Bachelor of Laws in 1961. He was admitted to practice law by the State Bar of Colorado the same year.
During his first year of practice, Mr. Bain became an associate of the firm Holme Roberts & Owen, rising to become a partner in 1967. He served as the chairperson of the firm's executive committee from 1988 until 1990, and would remain a partner until 2004, when he transitioned to serve of counsel. Since 2012, Mr. Bain has been of counsel to Bryan Cave LLP, which became Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner in 2017.
For decades, Mr. Bain has been a fixture in Colorado's humanitarian and arts communities. He is a former director of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Denver Inc., and the Denver Public Library Commission, among others, and has served as chair of the Colorado Council on the Arts, the Denver Foundation, and Human Services Inc. Noted for his lifelong support of Colorado higher education institutions, Mr. Bain sat on the board of directors of the Auraria Foundation, the Center for the American West at the University of Colorado and is the former chair of the Auraria Higher Education Center.
A lifelong advocate for the legal profession, Mr. Bain has worked with the Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado, and was a member of the grievance committee for the Colorado Supreme Court from 1975 until 1980, culminating in a term as its chairperson. An active member of the Republican Party, he was a Denver mayoral candidate in 1987 and served as state chair of the Colorado Republican Party and a member of the Republican National Committee in the 1990s. Currently, Mr. Bain is proud to serve as the chair of the Board of Denver's historic Fairmount Cemetery, where he has been active in executive board functions for more than three decades. He maintains his affiliation with more than two dozen professional societies, social clubs and special interest groups, including the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Bar Association, the Association of Yale Alumni and the Grolier Club of New York City.
