An accomplished listee, Ms. Holaday celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Ms. Holaday enjoyed a wonderful career for nearly three decades, beginning in 1959 as a technical writer for GE in Phoenix. After finding success for three years with the organization, she was recruited by Honeywell Inc. as a computer systems analyst, where she devoted more than two decades to her profession before retiring in 1986. As a writer, Ms. Holaday also authored a book of poetry, "Wild Places." She also served as a secretary for the International Society of Writers and Publishers between 1968 and 1970.
Following her retirement, Ms. Holaday formed Preserve Arizona's Wolves (PAWS), a citizen's advocacy group, in 1987. Established to raise public awareness on the endangered species, wolves have notably been hunted nearly to extinction, mostly by ranchers. Aiding in the preservation of wildlife ever since, she also authored a successful book in 2003, "Return of the Mexican Gray Wolf: Back to the Blue," through the University of Arizona Press. Detailing how Ms. Holaday and other citizens on the Mexican Wolf Recovery Team addressed the many challenges that they faced in saving the wolves, their remarkable efforts led to the successful release of 11 wolves back into the wild. At this writing, over 180 wolves roam he Blue Wilderness of Arizona and New Mexico.
Among Ms. Holaday's civic commitments, she was active on the public advocacy council committee for the Arizona Comparative Environmental Risk Project, where she was appointed by the governor of Arizona in 1994. She also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves between 1944 and 1946. To prepare for her career, Ms. Holaday attended Denison University, was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, and from which she attained a Bachelor of Arts in 1944. In accounting for her professional success, she credits the influence of her mother, who distinguished herself as a mathematician and raised four children before returning to college to receive a master's degree. She attributes her writing ability to her father who authored many books.
Ms. Holaday's activism throughout her career has led her to join such professional organizations as the National Resources Defense Council, the Arizona Wilderness Coalition, the National Wildlife Federation, the Defenders of Wildlife where she was the recipient of a Conservation Award of Excellence in 1998 and the International Wolf Center where she was bestowed with a Who Speaks for Wolf Award in 2005. She has also been a member of the Audubon Society, the Arizona Heritage Alliance, where she was recognized with a Volunteer Service Award, and the Sierra Club, from which she earned an Outstanding Achievement Award in 2002 and a 25-Year Member Award in 2005.
Acknowledged in 1994 with a Service on Roosevelt Lake Task Force Award from the U.S. Forest Service, Ms. Holaday later received a World of Outdoors Award from the Cactus-Pine Girl Scout Council. She also received an Environmentalist of the Year Award from the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, a Wilderness Hero Award from Campaign America's Wilderness and a Conservation Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Holaday has been featured in approximately 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
